CHARLESTON - An open house to review plans for two hike-and-bike trail systems in the New River Gorge National River will be held next week.
A West Virginia newspaper reports that the National Park Service will hold a meeting from 3-7pm Thursday in the Canyon Rim Visitor Center near Fayetteville.
Funding was allocated to design and build new stacked-loop trails in the New River Gorge in 2009. The parks service is offering three alternatives for the trails.
New River Gorge Superintendent Don Striker said the public has expressed a great interest in developing additional trail opportunities for both hiking and bicycling within the park.
In addition to the open house, the plans are available for online viewing and commenting at the park's website, www.nps.gov/neri.
