Deckers Creek group to receive fed grant
Friends of Deckers Creek (FODC) will receive an Urban Water Small Grant for work on its Richard Mine acid drainage project at 4pm Aug 20, at FODC's Outdoor Learning Park behind the Kroger store in Sabraton. Environmental Protection Agency Region III Administrator Shawn Garvin will present the award. FODC said the Richard mine discharges acid mine drainage to Deckers Creek about two miles upstream from the city of Morgantown, and is responsible for most of the pollution in Deckers Creek as it flows through Richard, Rock Forge, the Sabraton area and downtown Morgantown. FODC will use the funding to study the mine pool and to build partnerships with others in the communnity who can help solve the problem.
