Plight of the Monarch Butterfly

There was a recent article about a plunge in the number of monarch butterflies migrating to Mexico (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/29/monarch-butterfly-migration_n_4688709.html).

After reading the article, I wondered where I might be able to find milkweed seeds for my gardens. A friend texted me a link she saw on "Green Morgantown's" facebook page. If you're interested, this retail site, devoted to the monarch butterflies, is a source of both seeds and live plants: http://www.livemonarch.com/free-milkweed-seeds.htm

Gartons' NYC dinosaur display on TV Show this Thursday!

Some of you met Ray Garton this past summer during the state meeting at Elkins where he presented a session on fossils.  Ray sent along this note:

This is the Week  to see our dinosaur display that we did in New York City.  The episode of Elementary will air this Thursday, January 30 at 10:00 on CBS. We have no idea of what you will see,, but our contact with the show said, “ The show airs THIS Thursday! Thanks again for your help. It looks great. LA was very happy with our work.”

We hope that you’re able to see it or use your DVR.

Sorry for the cross posting but it was the easiest way to get the word out fast.

Enjoy,
Ray & Mary Ellen

53rd Annual Wildflower Pilgramage

Good Morning,

Attached you will find the reservation form for the 2014 Wildflower Pilgrimage held at Blackwater Falls.  If you are unable to open the document, please let me know and I will mail you a paper copy.  Please note that the form has undergone some changes this year.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Also new this year is our ability to take reservations over the phone with a credit card.  You will need to speak with me in order to do that.  I will be out of the office tomorrow, Friday January 17, 2014.  However, if you leave me a voicemail with your phone number I will return your call.  Any voicemail will be dated and timed so that all reservations will still be taken on a first come first served basis.

We look forward to seeing you at the Pilgrimage!!

January's book: "A Sand County Almanac"

The name of this month's book is "A Sand County Almanac" by Aldo Leopold.  The MN Book Club meets at 6pm the first Thursday of each month in the WVU South Ag Sciences bldg, rm G138.  It's the building across from the new greenhouse on the Evansdale campus.  There is still a lot of construction going on there, and the front entrance where we would normally go in is now blocked off.   There is a way in around the side  of the building, so if you are in the large parking lot you would have to go around to the left.
