Joe Hartman

It is with great sadness that I note the passing of Joe Hartman on Saturday, July 18, at his home.  Joe was the husband of Erin Hartman (MN class of 2012).  There will be no visitation.  A celebration of his life will be held in the near future.

WVBG Volunteer Work Day Saturday, July 18, 9am-noon

Hello everyone,

There will be a volunteer work day at the WV Botanic Garden this Saturday, July 18 beginning at 9:00 a.m. and going until about noon.  The main project will be pulling Japanese stilt grass, an invasive species that needs to be removed in order to protect native plants on the site.  The work is easy pulling.  You may wish to bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.  Dress for the weather and bring water to drink.

It would be helpful to let George Longenecker know if you plan to attend (

Attention Photographers

There is a citizen scientist project to map bumble bees.  The project is out of Canada, but is mapping the entire North American continent.  All you need to do it to sign up, snap pictures of bumble bees, and upload them to Bumble Bee Watch using their online form.  There are guides to help you identify your bumble bee, but they also have a team of experts who will verify your sightings.  This is a perfect opportunity to hone your photography skill while helping bumble bees.  Their online site offers tips for taking pictures.
